Programme

Day One
  • 19:30 — 21:00 Public Lecture: Presentation by Magnum photographer, Sabiha Çimen
Day Two
  • 10:00 — 11:00 Welcome: Introduction of Magnum Learn’s and BECA’s staff, and the participants
  • 11:00 — 13:00 Group Reviews: Presentation of participants’ projects
  • 14:30 — 17:00 Group Session: Presentation of participants’ projects continues, followed by collective editing, sequencing exercises, and shared feedback
Day Three
  • 10:00 — 11:00 Lecture: Sabiha Çimen on the art of sequencing
  • 11:00 — 13:00 Individual Work Session: Reflecting on your images and refining your selection
  • 14:30 — 17:00 Final Reviews: Participants show their final selection of images to Sabiha and their peers

FAQ

What does the fee cover?

The fee covers the workshop itself. It does not cover accommodation, travel to the workshop location, and meals.

Can I pay in installments?

Yes. We offer the option to pay in two installments. For more information, please contact us at hello@beforecreating.com.

Can I already book my travel and accommodation?

We recommend waiting until the workshop has the minimum number of participants before booking your trip. As soon as the workshop is confirmed, we will send out an email notification, at which point you can book your trip.

Terms and Conditions

Full fees must be paid prior to the start of the workshop. BECA and Magnum Photos reserve the right to cancel groups with less than 9 participants. Students will be given a full refund. In the event of cancellation, students will be given at least 3 weeks advance notice. BECA and Magnum Photos reserves the right to change or alter the program advertised.

Cancellations: If you decide to cancel for any reason, the cancellation must be confirmed to us in writing. If you notify us at least 90 days before the first day of the Workshop, we will refund all workshop fees minus a 10% administrative fee. If you cancel between 89 and 60 days before the Workshop begins, 50% of the workshop fees will be charged. If you cancel fewer than 60 days before the Workshop begins, 100% of the workshop fees will be charged.

Sabiha Çimen — портрет (уъркшоп в BECA)

Biography: Sabiha Çimen was born in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1986. She is a self-taught photographer, focusing on women, Islamic culture, portraiture, and still life. Çimen graduated from Istanbul Bilgi University with an undergraduate degree in international trade and finance, and a master’s degree in cultural studies. In 2021, Çimen was honored with the Light Work Artist Residency. In 2020, she was named a W. Eugene Smith Fund recipient, was awarded the Canon Female Photojournalist Grant, and won second prize in the Long-Term Projects category at the World Press Photo Awards. In 2018, she won third prize in the PHmuseum Women Photographers Grant. For her debut book, Hafiz (2021), she received the Paris Photo/Aperture First PhotoBook Award. Çimen joined Magnum Photos in 2020, became an associate member in 2022, and a full member in 2024. She lives between Istanbul and New York.

It was founded in 1947 in Paris by photographers Robert Capa, David „Chim“ Seymour, Maria Eisner, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger, William Vandivert, and Rita Vandivert.

Magnum Learn provides opportunities to meet and learn from Magnum’s photographers across the globe. We welcome participation from those at the very start of their creative journey to those already working professionally in photography.
